Creating a Curved Glass Block Walk in Shower Wall and Base

Curved glass block shower walls have become the rage - they look sleek, are easy to clean, eliminate the cost of a door and the need to clean around the tracks of the door and are less expensive than tempered bent glass. With that said the design of a rounded glass bathroom wall is not the easiest thing to do. To begin you've got to design an integrated shower system where the curvature of the base will work with the block units (note: the blocks cannot be cut). In this project it's critical to design first and let your construction process and products follow your goals for the finished look you desire.

This article will provide 6 1/2 design steps for a successful radius shower wall:

Step 1 - Determine what you want your curved wall(2) to look like - First measure the total space (depth x width) you've got to work with. To have a radius bathroom wall you'll usually need a minimum of 34" of shower depth to have adequate room to get into the wet area of the shower. Consider if you want a corner or bench shower seat or leg ledge. Get our a tape measure and see if you want a tight or more gradual radius (the tightest radius with glass blocks is usually a 1' dimension measured from the inside of the wall) or even a serpentine (S-shaped) type wall.

Develop a rough drawing of your shower with the approximate size (depth and width), wall shape(s), and accessories desired (benches, leg ledges etc.).

Step 2 - Identify what material you'd like on the floor of the shower - More luxurious custom showers are usually done with tile, terrazzo, or granite floors. Less expensive shower bases are made of acrylic.

With a tile floor you can either construct a mortared mud-set pan base (which is time consuming and more prone to quality and leakage issues down the road) or get a prefabricated expanded polystyrene base which is 100% waterproof, ready for tile and specifically designed for the curvature of the glass block shower stall or enclosure.

An acrylic shower base for blocks is premade and available in two sizes - 72" x 51" and 60" x 34". The colors of these bases are white and biscuit and come in left hand and right hand entry designs.

Step 3 - Consider how tall you want your walls to be - Most completed block shower walls are 80" and after they are set on the curb of the base (which is usually 4" to 5") bring the finished height of the wall to 84" - which is equivalent to a standard shower head. For side block walls with corner seats and leg ledges the most common height is 64" (the benches and seats are 16" tall from the inside of the base and putting the block on a partial 16" high wall will allow the 80" rounded wall and the side 64" wall to match up).

Step 4 - Evaluate any special needs for a roll in barrier free shower base - Stepping over a curb (even one as small as 1") can be a major obstacle for some people. Barrier free and roll in shower bases can be designed to help those who have difficulty getting into a standard shower the opportunity to have a cool and functional shower. Although acrylic bases for blocks are usually not possible in roll in designs (they are premade with 4 - 5" curbs) the expanded polystyrene bases can be custom designed with any person's specific needs in mind.

Step 5 - Add the cool - the color, design, and patterns to make your project stand out - Why settle for a generic looking wall when you don't have to? Colored glass block, etched glass, and unique patterns, sizes and block shapes can bring a unique style to your finished project. Design in "the cool" so you don't have to limit yourself to the standard blocks you may have seen in your local market.

Step 6 - Purchasing the base and walls - It's best to buy the shower base and the wall(s) from the same supplier or contractor - this way you can require they guarantee the base and the walls will fit together. Since curved glass block shower base and wall products are a niche market make sure your supplier has actual pictures and projects they can show you with rounded walls (a comment like "I did a block shower project a few years ago" should not inspire the confidence you should demand for a specialty job like this).

The most common failure in radius glass block shower wall projects are poorly designed and constructed bases that don't match up with the block walls. This problem can cause a block installation contractor to make joints between the blocks that are either too big or too small, or have to use a strange grouping of blocks which don't look good together.

Premade glass block panels can be made in either straight, curved, or step down designs that make it possible for many contractors and handy homeowners to accomplish this project. Try not to do a rounded wall project using the old-fashioned block by block installation process (unless the design is very tricky) - the quality is often lacking with an inexperienced installer and may cause you to have to redo the wall.

Step 6 1/2- If the project is causing you sleepless nights - This project should not, and does not, have to cause you sleepless nights. If you're unsure of your design or your ability (or your potential contractor's ability) to complete the project get help. A glass block supply and installation specialist can help you through the details, supply you with pre-made base, wall, accessories and unique design blocks to turn your conceptual project into a stunning reality. Don't be stubborn, call or email for help before you get too far.

Now that you're equipped with these 6 1/2 steps you're ready to design and order your curved glass block shower wall and base.

California to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions to 1990 Levels

Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32, 2006) mandates a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Since cars and light-duty trucks represent 46% of total greenhouse gas emissions, all we have to do is tell the automakers what emissions goals they need to reach, and that should solve the problem, right? Well, no. There's a smarter way to go about it.

If we continue to assume that people will keep driving cars, and that the population is expected to increase, the carmakers alone are not going to be able to solve the problem. What about changing the existing assumptions? What if people didn't have to drive as far? What if they more of them took public transportation? Could thinking like that, combined with lower emissions from the biggest polluters, enable us to reduce greenhouse gasses (ghg's) in spite of an increase in population?

Enter Senate Bill 375 (SB 375, 2008), which requires a reduction of ghg's to 1990 levels from new land development or redevelopment projects. It also called for the creation of a technical advisory committee to advise the California Air Resource Board (CARB) on how to reach the 2020 goal.

So where does this committee come from? Who has the knowledge to make such a comprehensive ten-year plan? Twenty-one people have volunteered their time to make this happen. For the most part, they fall into two groups: organizations whose goal is to reduce emissions and organizations who want their cities and counties to thrive. While these goals may seem to be at odds, the job of the Regional Targets Advisory Committee (RTAC) is to make a plan to do both at the same time.

Who is representing our community's varying interests? Ten committee members are involved in local government and city planning, five are involved in public transportation, five are from organizations that support environmental issues, and one from a California new home builder. They come from all of the major metropolitan areas as well as universities and state-wide organizations.

The RTAC report to the California Air Resources Board is due at the end of September. In the next two months, they will put together recommendations of actions and measurements that will enable each region to meet the required goals, taking into consideration the capabilities of each entity and current and projected economic factors. No small feat.

When they're done, they'll have accomplished something that could not have been done without a huge long-term commitment from a wide variety of organizations. This is the only kind of effort that can possibly make a significant dent in greenhouse gasses in California.

Top 10 Comedy Films

So what is it exactly that distinguishes the good comedy films from the great? Is it their ability to endure, the way their humor creeps up on you or takes you by surprise? Maybe it's a great script, perfect timing or one-liners that hit the mark every time? Whatever it is, great comedy films leave a lasting impression and have an ability to engage us. They allow us to lower our defenses and share in the joy and the pain of the characters, as we identify with their situations. Ultimately, truly great comedy allows us to laugh at ourselves.

10. There's Something About Mary

Arguably the best Farrelly brothers movie to date, they take a story about stalkers and turn it into a comedy. Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) still longs for his prom date Mary Jensen (Cameron Diaz) years after losing track of her following an unfortunate accident on prom night. He eventually decides to hire a private detective to track her down, the only problem being, that the private detective falls in love with her too. Seems like Mary is every man's dream girl. This movie produced many classic scenes, some you have to see to believe.

9. Airplane!

Considered by many to be the classic slapstick comedy. Airplane! tells the story of Ted Striker, who has never been able to fly a plane since an "incident" in the war. Striker is forced into action when a mysterious disease (don't order the fish) knocks out the crew. Airplane! is so jam-packed with jokes you'll need to see it a few times to catch them all.

8. Meet the Parents

This movie takes a potentially awkward situation that most people can relate to and takes it to the extreme. Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) tries to impress his girlfriends parents, but the father-in-law to be (played by Robert De Niro) is an ex CIA agent and is very mistrusting of Greg. Everything Greg tries to do ends up with disastrous consequences from losing the families cat, to giving his future sister-in-law a black eye. You can't help but cringe and laugh at the same time at Greg's misfortunes.

7. Blades of Glory

Following a fight at a medal awards ceremony, champion skaters Chazz Michael Michaels (Will Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) are banned from competitive skating for life. Years pass and circumstances bring them together for another chance at the podium, but this time in the "men's doubles". The story follows their hilarious preparations for the event; all-the-while dogged by attempts from the brother/sister pairs team of the Van Waldenbergs to sabotage their efforts.

6. Coming to America

One of the last great Eddie Murphy movies before his return in the late 90s. Coming to America tells the story of Prince Akeem (Murphy) coming to America to find himself a wife who will love him for who he is after rejecting the idea of an arranged marriage. A fish out of water story, Akeem can't help but act with dignity even when working at the local fast food restaurant. He soon finds the women of his dreams but will she love him when she discovers he is a Prince from a far away land? A great story with very funny scenes and lots of cameos to look out for.

5. Borat

The story centers on Borat, the Kazakhstani reporter sent to the US to prepare a report for the benefit of his countrymen back home. Things don't quite go according to plan as Borat falls madly in love with Pamela Anderson after seeing her in Baywatch. Borat decides to go to California to meet and marry her and encountering all sorts of people and situations along the way. Told in classic road trip style, the many adventures of Borat are sometimes crude, but often hilarious at the same time. The most amazing thing is that Borat is taken at face value by virtually everyone he meets with hilarious and sometimes jaw-dropping results.

4. This is Spinal Tap

This is the classic "rockumentary" - a spoof of so many other on-the-road, rock 'n roll documentaries. It tells the story of Spinal Tap, a washed up British rock band returning to the US for another tour. What we end up with is a hilarious send-up and sometimes a biting commentary on the rock 'n roll world. The band goes through inevitable ups and downs through their tour after their latest album cover is deemed too racy and is completely blacked out. The band breaks up only to reform (in typical rock and roll fashion) and to make more money on yet another tour.

3. Groundhog Day

Phil Conners (Bill Murray) somehow gets stuck replaying the same day over and over again... Groundhog Day.  Like most people, at first it seems like fun, but after reliving the same day 100s of times, Phil becomes suicidal and tries to take his own life. After finding out he can't die, he tries every conceivable way to kill himself. He eventually realizes this is pointless and starts to learn about the people and the town he's stuck in and falls in love with his producer, Rita (Andie McDowell).

2. Sleeper

During a routine operation Miles Monroe (Woody Allen) is cryogenically frozen and then brought back to life 200 years later. The future looks bleak and is controlled by a big brother like government headed by "the Leader". Monroe ends up joining the underground resistance with hilarious consequences. Perhaps the most memorable scene in the movie is when Miles "disguises" himself as an android. This film is noted for its more visual and slapstick gags than many of Woody Allens's later movies.

1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Considered by many to be Monty Python's finest work, the Holy Grail retells the classic story of King Arthur, but does away with most of the classic story. Instead, the king searches for knights to come to Camelot with him; along the way God appears to tell them to search for the Holy Grail. Their noble quest sees the majority of the knights killed off in funny ways until only two make it to the end. What happens there is one of the funniest and most absurd scenes ever filmed.

Interesting Skateboard Facts

Here are seven interesting and unusual skateboarding facts that you can use to astound and impress your friends.

1. Of all active skateboarders in the United States of America, more than half live in the state of California.

2. Consider all the sports which are played and which are popular in many different countries all over the world. Now, consider this interesting fact: skateboarding is the sixth more popular sport on the planet in terms of total participants.

3. Approximately 100,000 people every year require some sort of medical treatment for skateboard-related injuries. A majority of these injuries are a result of people not wearing or not using proper safety equipment like helmets and pads. Ouch!

4. Speaking of injuries, can you guess which body part is injured more than any other during skateboarding? If you answered the wrist, give yourselves a big round of applause.

5. When skateboarding first began, it was referred to as sidewalk surfing. This is a direct reference to surfing, which is considered the founding activity of skateboarding.

6. You could never tell by the naked eye, but most common or popular skateboard decks are actually made from seven separate pieces of plywood maple.

7. Between 1978 and 1989, skateboards were banned in Norway. The reason for the prohibition of skateboards was as a result of the high number of injuries that Norwegian skateboarders suffered.

If you ever find yourself on a quiz show, and one of the topics happens to be facts about skateboarding, then you'll be armed and ready with the knowledge needed to answer just about any skateboarding question that's thrown your way.

SQL Server Snapshot - How it Works

SQL Servers have been growing in business exponentially since they were created in the 1970's. First created by IBM in San Jose, California, SQL did not become a standard computer language until the mid-1980s. Since that time, during its growth, there have been many upgrades and changes to the SQL relational database management systems, one such upgrade is the SQL server snapshot.

A SQL server snapshot is essentially what it sounds like, it is a snapshot of the system that is stored and used as a primary system. When a snapshot occurs, the information is stored in the main drive and then further information created after the snapshot occurs is stored in a new data is stored in what is called a sparse file. A snapshot creates a backup of the system at that time, and uses 90% less drive space than backing up the system does. This information is stored for as long as the user requires it, and can be dropped when no longer needed.

The purposes of a SQL server snapshot vary depending on the needs of the user. In some cases, it is used simply to back up the system without having to use so much drive space during the working day. In other situations, it is created when data is perceived as "ideal" and any new data needs to be compared to the data that was previously acquired. This information can be stored indefinitely and new snapshots can be created at any point to continue tracking specific data. When saving the user should simply take the name of the data and add a time stamp to it. This will ensure that there is no confusion when accessing the information as to what its purpose is.

When a SQL server snapshot is dropped, the new information and the previous information join to form a completely new set of information. The information from the snapshot is no longer available and cannot be referenced for projects or projections. When the decision is made to drop it, it is vital that the project manager or user understands that it will become irretrievable.

While some business may never drop a SQL server snapshot, others may find that they simply want to test their data against studies that may have been conducted or to simply experiment with different ways of looking at their data. Once the information is retrieved the SQL snapshot is dropped in favor of new testing, or they return to their regular data consumption. Companies that track long-term data may never drop a snapshot, and the SQL servers are designed to function either way.

Rain Water Harvesting Or the History of the Rainwater Barrel

While the history of the barrel goes back to Babylon and Roman times and the rain water barrel would have to follow that , the history of rainwater harvesting very possibly would date back to the very first appearance of "Man". It is quite likely that the "cave man" collected rain water for future use. Exactly how he did this is something which we will probably never know for sure, but we can make theories and theories are always fuel for the creative mind. Most likely they used animal skins to catch the water but who knows for sure.

Before the advent of the wooden barrel there was the "clay barrel" or urn. The first uses of such containers may have been for wine and oils, however it is quite likely they would have been used for collecting rain water, since in India in the 3rd century B.C. there is not only mention of  rainwater harvesting, but there is also a note that "Members of the community who did not participate in the activities of water management were punished."*  I have no idea what this punishment may have been but I'd be willing to wager that it was more severe than the fine you might be subjected to in Southern California for violating the water conservation rules.

In Ethiopia there is record of rainwater harvesting being used as early as 560 B.C., but the earliest recorded use of rainwater harvesting pre-dates this by thousands of years. In Southern Mesopotamia there is evidence of water harvesting dating back to 4500 B.C. The barrel didn't come into use in the Roman Empire until about 300 AD, though they had been used by the Gauls for a few hundred years, so you can see that the rainwater barrel was late in the evolution of rainwater harvesting. The exact date when wooden barrels were first used to capture rainwater is unknown but one might assume that it was not long after barrels became commonly used.

When we think of barrels we think of the cylindrical container, but it also became a unit of measure in the English system and though it varied over time it was generally between 31 and 42 gallons. Barrels were the preferred shipping container for about 2000 years before the advent of metal drums and cardboard containers. Barrels were used to ship everything from gold coins and nails to fine wines and whiskey. Since they were so common and able to hold liquids they became ideal for capturing rain water.  If you see an old Western you often will see a rainwater barrel in the back ground that was probably left over from something that had been shipped much like old cardboard boxes are today.

With the advance in technology today most "rainwater barrels" are made of plastic and come in all sizes and shapes from the traditional barrel to shapes resembling a child's building block  The most un-traditional of these is an Australian innovation called the Rainwater HOG, which was invented by Sally Dominguez, an Australian inventor and architect. It has a unique look very unlike a traditional barrel shape. It is shaped a bit like "Gumby"  or a green domino. Most others are shaped like barrels or tanks but, being plastic, there has been a bit of creativity in their look. I only mention the "HOG" because of the unusual name and the fact that it was actually designed for appearance and functionality by an architect.

Today in Southern California there is a water shortage, in spite of the fact that there seems to have been rain. The reason is that the rain went down the storm drains and into the ocean and very little stayed behind. Utilizing rainwater harvesting would help in many ways. While you probably would not want to drink the rainwater for a variety of reasons from roof contaminants to just what is washed out of the air in the LA area, but there are many water uses from watering your lawn to washing the car where a rainwater collection system would be just what the doctor ordered. If you own a golf course you could have "green" greens, if you'll excuse the bad humor. The point is that saving rain water for future use was good for the Southern Mesopotamians and it is still a good idea for Southern Californians.

How to Make a Crazy Toilet-Paper-Roll Bulldozer From Easy-To-Find Supplies!

When building your project, experiment with new and different ways of putting it together. The most important thing is to have fun!

Find these or similar supplies!

* 2 toilet-paper tubes

* Cereal box or some cardboard

* 1 or 2 straws

* Tape

1. Make your bulldozer blade!

I started out by making my bulldozer blade. Simply cut one of your TP tubes in half the long way. I ended up cutting it down a little more so that it was about 1/3. Looks like a bulldozer blade to me! You can even cut the edges at an angle a little bit to make it even more cool.

2. Make your bulldozer arms!

Next you can make the arms that will hold your bulldozer blade. Stand your blade up on to a piece of cardboard and trace out its circular profile. Then draw out your arm design. Make it about 3 to 4 inches long. Cut it out and trace it onto another piece of cardboard. Then cut that one out. This way both of your arms will be the same. Next make a hole on each arm so that they can slide freely onto your axle straw.

3. Add the axle holes!

Now make 4 holes onto your other TP tube. you will want to make them as level to each other and as evenly spaced as possible. I spent a few moments with a ruler and marked my locations out first. Then using a hole punch I carefully made my holes. These holes need to be slightly bigger than your straws.

4. Add your axles!

For my axles I cut out pieces of 2 straws so that they stuck out about an inch on each side. I inserted them and then made a few adjustments to my holes. Basically, I made the holes a little bigger so that my straws would turn freely.

5. Make your wheels!

Take an old box or piece of cardboard and draw four circles (I made my wheels about 3 inches in diameter). Then carefully cut out all four wheels. Find the center of each wheel and make a small hole for your straw axle to slide through. Try not to make the holes too big, or the wheels might wobble.

6. Start to assemble your dozer!

Start to assemble your bulldozer by installing the back axle straw then slide your rear wheels onto it. You may want to ad a little tape to hold your wheels on it they are loose. Then place your front axle straw in and slide both of your bulldozer arm onto it, one on each side.

7. Add your wheels!

Now install your front wheels. At this point I rolled it around a little and then made a few last-minute adjustments. Before you tape it up permanently make sure your wheels can turn and that the blade arms are loose. If not, make the necessary adjustments.

8. Attach your blade!

All that's left is to attach your front bulldozer blade to both of the arms. Find a position that you like and tape it on. VOILA - a TP Bulldozer! You can start rolling it around or dress it up. The sky's the limit!

9. Dress up your dozer!

Now for my favorite part of every project...dressing it up! For my TP Dozer I used some orange masking tape. If you don't have or can't get some orange tape, try using regular masking tape and coloring it with a permanent maker. I disassembled all the pieces and carefully covered everything with my orange tape after I made the Simple PT Dozer.

10. Reassemble your dozer!

After I was happy with the way all off my parts looked, I reassembled my TP Dozer. It looks really cool but it still needed something. My son suggested a cabin... I agree!

11. Build your cabin!

For my cabin I carefully cut out 4 pieces of cardboard to form its four sides. I decide to take the scrap piece of TP tube that was left over from making my Dozer blade and use it for the roof. After playing around a little with its shape a little, and making some necessary adjustments to it, I permanently taped it up and covered it with my orange tape.

12. Make your windows!

To make the windows for my cabin I carefully cut them out of some blue masking tape. You could draw them in place using a colored marker if you like. For my door, I cut out a piece of scrap cardboard and covered it with tape. I added some windows and drew in a little handle and attached it to the cabin. LOOKS REALLY COOL!

13. Add extras!

I taped the cabin on, drew in a few steps so that the dozer operator would be able to climb up to the cabin. I also added a little blue tape to the ends of my axle straws for the finishing touch and Voila! Your TP Dozer is ready to start bulldozing stuff around the house!

Common Mistakes on the DMV Driving Test - How You Can Avoid Them

Everybody who has a license passed it - the driving test. Some passed their first test, some passed their fifth. The common thing about everyone is that they made mistakes. For sure. There is no perfect driver, and as a result no perfect driving.

However, some mistakes repeat more than others. Examiners keep telling students about their mistakes, but with no hope - students still make the same old silly mistakes. Those mistakes are easy to avoid if you know what you do.

One big mistake is not making complete stops. Many students "roll" through the intersection without completely stopping at the limit line. This is more serious on right turns on red light. Many students forget to make a complete stop and just slow down, make sure traffic is clear, and continue. This is wrong and fails many students. Not to mention it is highly illegal, and when driving alone it can award the non-stopper with a big fine.

Another problem students have is lane changes. In theory, going from one lane to another is the easiest mission on earth: you signal, check that the area is clear, and move into the lane you want. For some people it is not very easy, and they often reach a situation of a near-accident. This, of course, is an automatic fail.

Lack of confidence and over-caution are two reasons that also fail many applicants. They tend to think that if they drive under the speed limit, they are safe. There is nothing further from the truth. Slow driving is a critical error, an error that means an automatic fail. Also, if the examiner tells a student too shy to take his turn on a stop sign what to do, the test is also over.

The key to avoid all these mistakes is practice. The old cliche, "Practice makes perfect", is the best advice for driving and learning to drive.

Maki's Tee Shot- "O'Bomb it for Obama"

Classic shot from my cousin, Maki, at Strawberry Farms (12/20/09). He hits it so well, he's kind of disoriented after the shot. A few holes later, he ends up landing 6 inches away from a hole in one. It helped him out.

Refinancing to Avoid Foreclosure

Refinancing is a simple process and is similar to applying for your first mortgage. Once you've been approved for a refinancing loan, the new lender will pay off the old mortgage loan, including any outstanding late charges or fees.

For homeowners who have more than 15% equity and whose mortgages are less than 90 days past due, refinancing is often an excellent way to stop foreclosure and regain financial control. Among other possible benefits, refinancing will:

- Stop foreclosure
- Roll in past-due mortgage payments and fees
- Lower mortgage interest rate
- Lower monthly mortgage payments
- Pay off higher-interest bills like credit cards
- Lower overall monthly payments by consolidating debts
- Improve credit by paying off delinquent accounts

For some homeowners hoping to stop foreclosure, mortgage refinancing may be the most attractive option.

Disadvantages of a Refinance:

1. Borrowers that do not have sufficient equity will not be able to refinance. Many homeowners who find themselves facing foreclosure have little or no equity in their homes. With home values dropping considerably, some homeowners find them selves "upside down", or no equity (owing on the mortgage more than the house is worth), affecting a persons ability to refinance.

2. Interest-only payments or lower initial mortgage payments in an adjustable rate plan.

3. Generally speaking, it can be difficult for the borrower to refinance if the equity in the home is less than 15% of the value with a FICO score under 620. Lenders may require borrowers with credit problems and lower FICO scores have 25% equity.

Refinancing Example: Pete's home is currently valued at $200,000. He will have difficulty arranging to refinance to stop foreclosure if there "mortgage payout" is more $170,000 on the home. Pete's refinancing will become particularly problematic if their mortgage is more than 90 days past due, and then even greater equity may be required.

How To Get A Disney Channel Acting Audition

Kids all over the country dream of making it big in show business. While acting jobs can be hard to land, it is possible to break into this difficult field by answering a call for a Disney Channel acting audition. Many of today's hottest young entertainers got their start from a Disney Channel acting audition. Though there are sometimes hundreds, or even thousands of people competing for just a few spots, this has been the big break that boosted the career of many performers.

The easiest way to land a Disney Channel acting audition is through an agent. They are made aware of current calls and will have the specifics of the open roles available. It is much easier for inexperienced actors and actresses to get themselves noticed by using an agent than attempting to land these highly sought after roles on their own. While there are ways of getting a Disney Channel acting audition on your own, this is the simplest route.

A great resource that will allow you an inside look at a Disney Channel acting audition listing is the Disney website at http://corporate.disney.go.com/auditions/. Their corporate section has a special page that will let the public know about any open auditions, casting calls, or extras opportunities. While this may not get you the scoop on every Disney Channel acting audition, it can be a foot in the door if you do not have an agent. Check this page regularly to see what auditions are being offered nearest you.

Though winning a part through a Disney Channel acting audition can be difficult, with hard work it is possible. Just take a look at all of the big name celebrities who have become hugely successful after a start on the Disney Channel. Who knows, maybe you could be the next huge success!

Tasty Visuals #003 - Maki-Zushi

These visuals all started out from a single illustration (now the animation Tasty Visuals #001). Whilst creating the illustration I thought about how each bit might animate and so set about turning it into a short ident type visual. It was soon after that I learnt about the Resolume competiton for Kraak & Smaak a Dutch trio of musicians who create some quality funk/breakbeat/electro tunes. As Kraak & Smaak translates to Crunchy & Tasty I thought itd be too good an opportunity to miss to get a set of food-themed illustrations turned into VJ loops. Before animating any of the parts I chose 3 of Kraak & Smaak's tracks and sliced it so that it was a segment of 16 beats. I then altered the tempo of the segment to 125BPM - as this works well with a 25fps frame rate (and is consequently easily scaleable for slower or faster sections should I need to re-render to a certain speed). Within these segments there was enough going on musically that I could animate individual objects to sounds, meaning that you can watch them again and again and still find new bits that sync up to something. The beauty of this is that all these elements can be removed as single pieces and reassembled to create new compositions. The limitations of the grid plus no gradients or transparencies also meant that consistency between the pieces was easy and that they could all be played consecutively and gel. The first of these animations focuses on a few sandwich ingredients, whereas the second closely ties ...

Rolling Your IRA Or 401(k) Into Real Estate

When it comes to getting a handle on your retirement your first priority would be to roll your IRA or 401(k) plans into a truly self directed type of account. One that let's you handle all forms of investments...real estate, stocks, bonds, mutual funds and any other form of qualified type of investments.

The process for rolling your IRA401(k) plan is simple and painless. Usually the process take only a few days to a week once your old custodian releases your funds and terminates your account.

One item for note is you never want to go through the transfer process. I repeat never transfer funds. Always perform a rollover when executing this transaction. The holding custodian usually will put up a fight because they don't want to release your funds. (It shows a loss in their books).

Once you perform a rollover your funds can be transferred in one of two ways. Either you roll your existing assets over into the new account provided they are transferable or you cash out the perform the roll over.

With corporate American placing the responsibility of financial management on employees your obligation to build a sizable nest egg is up to you. Just like Mom said "it's your fault if you leave this table hungry." I say "it's your fault for not knowing your financial needs and goals long before you ever reached the point in your life where it mattered."

It's not always your fault things happen you took to much risk, you didn't save enough or at all. Whatever your unique situation may be at this current time you can still change it. The game is only over when you give up or die.

Remember the saying of the Marines "we don't accept applications; only commitments." are you committed to mastering your financial life and all aspects of living or are you throwing in the towel? No matter what the choice you make you still have to sleep in your own bed. Commit or throw it in, tough choice isn't it.

When you choose to roll over your IRA/401(k) plan into real estate you have chosen to fight. You're willing to do whatever it takes to master your financial future and master the quality of your life. You have all of the ability you need to change you circumstances for your benefit.

Besides rolling your finances over you are simultaneously turning over a new leaf in life. Your in control not just of your financial outcome you have the ability to grow your education and get more involved. It's my belief that everyone should have a masters degree in finance unfortunately most of us have a PHD in not managing our most important areas of life.

I'll leave you with this one golden nugget of information. Just like the stone dropped in a calm lake, the ripples reach from shore to shore. As a butterfly flaps its' wings the effect can be hurricane forces across the globe. So your changes rather they are big or small will have the same effect as the stone or the butterfly.

Ripples on the water or gale force winds over the sea, your changes will impact every facet of your life. Roll your IRA over into tangible, manageable investments and seek out the advice you need. Always be in control and in the drivers seat, when it comes to you and your life.
